The past few months have been a turning point for civil society organizations, volunteers and businesses. The complete closure of USAID grant programs in Ukraine and the radical reduction of American foreign non-military aid have radically changed the funding landscape. We sincerely thank the American people for supporting Ukraine during all these years — it was powerful and significant!

However, it is time to accept the new reality and act decisively. Changing the policy of the newly elected US president, although it was a predictable risk, requires us to mobilize quickly, activate all available resources and transform emotions into constructive actions. The following tips and suggestions are addressed to both non-profit organizations and commercial companies:

Where to look for support in the new reality?

Closing USAID is a challenge, but not the end. There are many other funding opportunities:

  • European funds and programs of the European Commission – today they are becoming the main source of international support.
  • Private US foundations — many of them continue to operate independently of public policy.
  • International and European state institutions — Germany, Great Britain, Scandinavian countries actively support Ukraine.
  • US non-governmental charitable foundations and international NGOs — the private sector often acts independently of government decisions.

Yes, the competition for resources is growing critically, but this is what requires us to be maximally flexible, creative and professional in our fundraising activities.

What do we offer?

1. Urgent diversification of funding sources

2. Use crowdfunding

If your organization is ready to actively communicate and attract support, crowdfunding becomes not an additional, but a critical tool. We:

  • We will share a list of international crowdfunding platforms that work with Ukraine.
  • Let’s learn how to properly launch and support a crowdfunding campaign.
  • We will help create an effective communication strategy for attracting donations.

3. Seal your project for Ukrainian business

Ukrainian business becomes a key partner for CSOs. We will help you professionally present your project for a responsible Ukrainian business. It can be both financial donations and material resources, employee volunteering or other support.

What needs to be done?

  • Write a letter to info.prgrf@gmail.com with a brief description of your project and needs.
  • In the subject of the letter, write: “CSO support by responsible business”.

4. For those who are out of work

If the closure of USAID has affected your employment, we offer:

New opportunity: get the profession of a professional fundraiser or head of the fundraising department for NGOs/BOs and SMEs. In the changed conditions, these skills are in critical demand. This is your chance to develop expertise that will be relevant for years to come.

The time to support each other is critical now

Today, joining efforts is not a slogan, but a necessity:

  • If you are a business, support social initiatives you know and trust. They are doing incredible things for the military and civilians, and without your support, many projects would stop.
  • If you are a person with a big heart, it is time to actively support projects that are useful for the military and civilians, transparent in reporting. Every donation matters.
  • If you want to help, remember: donations now literally depend on the continuation of projects that change and save lives.
  • Support domestic business — buy Ukrainian, use the services of local companies. This supports the economy and jobs during this critical time.

Why is it important to act now?

Closing USAID is not the end, but a restart. Previous challenges, such as COVID-19, when international grant programs were curtailed, taught us to adapt quickly: attract business, launch crowdfunding and look for new ways. This experience showed that even without traditional donors it is possible to find resources and continue the work.

The difference is that now this is not a temporary pause, but a new reality to which we must adapt systematically and long-term.

We are ready to help you right now

  • Diversify funding sources
  • Create an effective fundraising strategy
  • Get new donors
  • Build a sustainable financial model

It is time to act decisively!
